Summer 2013 Anime Poll Results

Crunchyroll provided the results to a very... interesting poll about what was best this season, run by a Japanese website.  Here they are, with a few of my comments.

25. Tamayura: More Aggressive
24. Futari wa Milky Holmes
23. Kimi no Iru Machi
Well, I haven't watched any of those.  I heard that Futari wa Milky Holmes sucks, though.

22. Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist
Eh, that doesn't really surprise me all that much.  I bet that the only people who voted for it are girls, though.

20. Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (rerun)
19. Teekyuu
18. Dog & Scissors
Huh.  That's weird.  I thought everyone LOVES Dog & Scissors.  I see a lot of glowing recommendations for it all over the place, talking about how funny it is.  While I think that's extremely debatable, I wonder why it didn't place higher.  I guess that the Japanese and English fanbases are very different.

17. Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East
16. Danganronpa The Animation
...
What?
I thought that Danganronpa would be the breakout hit of this season.  I mean, looking at its awesome premise and the success of the rather similar Future Diary, I thought that it would rocket to the top of the charts.  It's a lot of fun.

15. Highschool DxD NEW
How this placed above Danganronpa is completely beyond me.  Maybe it's the breasts.  Yeah, that's probably it.

14. The World God Only Knows
Even though I haven't started this one yet, I'm pretty sure that it has a certain degree of quality.  Thus, I'm fine with it being here, or maybe a little higher.

13. Brothers Conflict
I thought I was the only one watching this, simply to laugh at it/hope it gets better.  Proves me wrong, I guess.  It surprises me that this placed higher than Makai Ouji, because they're both about a bunch of bishies, except Makai Ouji has a goat butler and demons fighting while this has incest.  Waaait...

12. Love Lab
Huh?  I thought that this was just a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things™ show.  Either it's actually not, or the Japanese are just really into that stuff.  I respect their opinions, but I don't agree with them.

11. Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS
This is that pedo show, right?

10. Silver Spoon
That's okay.  Silver Spoon's good, but not amazing (as of now, anyway), so that's a good spot for it.

9. Sunday Without God
This show has an awesome premise like Danganronpa, but I feel like it didn't really deliver what Danganronpa did in terms of entertainment value.  Well, who knows?  Maybe it gets better.

8. KINMOZA!
Oh, Japan. I will never understand you and your Cute Girls Doing Cute Things™ anime.

7. Servant x Service
I like this, so I guess it reaching #7 is okay.  I don't understand how it placed above a lot of the better stuff on this list, though.

6. Hyperdimension Neptunia
...Hyperdimension Neptunia sucks.  It alternates between boring and stupid.  There's a ton of fanservice, and the characters are obnoxious.  Either it somehow becomes amazing in episode 2, or people really love their fanservice vehicles with characters un-cleverly named after video game consoles.

5. Monogatari Second Season
Doesn't surprise me at all.  The Monogatari series is... very... well, itself.

4. Free!
See, world?  Fanservice vehicles for girls work just as well as fanservice vehicles for boys!  So make more girl-aimed shows!  Personally, I don't like fanservice vehicles, no matter who they're aimed at, but it's nice to at least see some gender equality going on.  I'll only be really excited for a fanservice vehicle if it has, I dunno, giant flamethrowers or 1900s-era plane dogfights going on in it.

3. Watamote!
Watamote is probably in my personal top five anime this season at the moment.  In fact, it probably is around #3.  And its awesome.  I love it's cringe-inducing humor and epic opening.

2. Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya
Huh?  How is this #2?  Is it just franchise power?  Because there was nothing good about the episode I saw.  Maybe it's because half of the first episode is spent with a naked loli.  Yeah, that's probably it.

1. Rozen Maiden Zuruckspulen
I can't really hate on this, because, even though I dropped it, it was because I wan't familiar with the franchise.  The animation was gorgeous, though.  So, Rozen Maiden at #1?  Fine with me.

And let's just assume that the still-running Attack on Titan is in spot #0, meaning that it's so popular that it wasn't included as an option for voting because everyone knows what spot it'd get.

...Where the hell is The Eccentric Family?  Unless something I haven't seen yet turns out to be amazing (which I doubt), that's probably the best anime this season.  And HIGH SCHOOL DXD NEW is 'better' than that?  Are you kidding me?

Gatchaman Crowds, anyone?  That show is pure fun.  GATCHAMAAAAAN deserved to at least crack the top ten, possibly the top five.
