Dawnleaf Watches Servant x Service: Episode 1 – No, This Doesn’t Have Maids in It

*Cues Jaws theme*
After the assassination of comedy by the ahoge-girl from Chronicles of the Going Home Club, I decided to sit down and watch something from the Working!! guy.   For those of you who haven’t seen it, Working!! was a rather above-average comedy about some high-schoolers working at a diner.  It had colorful, likeable characters and a cheery, pleasant atmosphere, even if it wasn’t exactly rib-crackingly hilarious.

AHHH, A FEMALE MC WITH AN AHOGE!  AHOGE-GIRL MARK 2!
Deep breaths, deep breaths…  Sorry, I’m having unpleasant flashbacks.  Don’t worry, though.  This woman doesn’t ruin every scene that she’s in.  In fact, she’s likeably quirky, just like everyone else here.  Imagine an anime version of The Office.  Except there’s no Jim and Dwight.  So it’s not as funny, but I’ll take what I can get here.

There’s not a whole lot I can say in this, because, overall, I really liked this episode.
Basically, the premise is very simple.  Three characters start their jobs as civil servants in this episode, and they work together with some other people.  This episode was devoted to introducing the characters, the place they work in, and the fact that everyone hates them.  And it isn't boring.

Oh, and they’re not all high school students.  If watching Nodame Cantabile and Rec has taught me anything, it’s that shows about adults are better because you can watch them all get drunk and do some hilarious schtuff.  And because anime high school students are stupid

EMOTIVE HAIR!  10/10.
And, by the way, I have an amazing love for this show’s opening.  It’s wonderful.  Just go watch it, trust me.  There’s so much stuff flying around and the song’s so happy~

So, overall, Servant x Service?  It’s good.  I definitely want to watch the next episode.  This show makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

In an attempt to fatten up this rather emaciated post, I’ll discuss the technicals.  The animation’s A-1 pictures, the makers of Sword Art Online (which is a crap show but it looks really pretty), Blue Exorcist (which also looks nice), and Shin Sekai Yori (which no one’s ever heard of, but has moments of pure visual brilliance).  This means the show looks fine.  They really didn’t need to allocate a huge amount of money into this (and they didn’t) but it has what it needs and doesn’t look lazy.  And the opening has a bunch of colorful CG stuff flying around and is awesome.

The music is also nice.  The OP is amazing (in a cheesy-goofy way, though), the ED’s fine.  I didn’t really notice a whole lot of the BGM except for one guitar one that I liked (but that’s probably just because I’m a sucker for guitars), but I wasn’t really listening for it otherwise.

I guess I’ll take her advice and close out this post.  What do I have to watch next?  The new Rozen Maiden, huh?  Sounds interesting…
