Dawnleaf Watches Vampire Knight: Episode 2 – Brooding Sexily In the Bathroom

So, we’ve learned for certain the matters concerning Zero.  When he’s not being busy leading the rebellion against Brittania- whoops, wrong Zero.  The reasons our Zero equally spends his time being a dick, brooding sexily in the moonlight, and acting tsuntsun towards Yuuki are because he’s a dick, because he’s actually in the process of turning into a vampire even though he hates vampires because they killed his family and he can only resist becoming a vampire through sheer willpower and it hurts, and because he wants to suck out her body fluids, respectively.

I’ve noticed a couple of hiccups in the logic at play here.  So, please, bear with me, I’m going to ask some rhetorical questions about the nature of the universe and its mechanics here.
-Zero already has a compulsion to drink blood and has fangs.  So why does the show tell me that he isn’t a vampire?  Aren’t those things basically the prerequisites for being vampires?

-On the topic of this show’s vampires, why do they bleed?  Because they do.  Most of the vampire lore I’ve come across has the vampires lacking blood, which is exactly why they need to suck it out of people.  In old vampire lore, the blood represented the person’s soul, so the vampires were soulless creatures that needed to steal other people’s souls to survive.  I understand that this isn’t at play in most vampire fiction anymore, but it does seem rather odd.

-If the vampires A.) have blood and B.) are tired of subsisting on the artificial blood and want some of the real stuff, why don’t they just suck each other’s blood?  Or their own, for that matter?  Since the headmaster is dead-set on preventing them from sucking the day students’ blood, this seems to be something logical to do.  And you can’t tell me that they can’t, because I’ve seen them licking cuts on their hands and stuff (framed in the most erotic manner possible, of course).

-On that note, why do the vampires have to be kept secret, anyway?  It seems irresponsible to not let the human students know so that they can be wary and keep their guard up and protect themselves, if necessary.  The vampires are perfectly willing to attack them and suck their blood, so it’s not like there isn’t a problem, and I’m not really trusting Yuuki and Zero to be the protectors of the people.  Plus, if the mission statement of this school is to improve human-vampire relations, how the hell can they be improved if the humans don’t even know that vampires exist?

-Back to Zero, if he was attacked four years ago, why isn’t he a vampire yet (well, at least within whatever this show’s logic is)?  It seems rather idiotic that he can hold off for so long out of sheer willpower, while no one else has (or even had the desire to).

-Why is it suddenly becoming so difficult for him now?  Is there some sort of trigger?  Okay, this is only a hole if they don’t explain it, which they probably will.  I hope.

-Why hasn’t Zero given in yet?  If it’s steadily becoming more and more difficult for him, it’s obvious that he’ll become a vampire eventually (he’s young and has a lot of life ahead of him, after all).  Does he want to hold off on becoming immortal until he’s legal?

-Why do the vampires have X-men powers?  Okay, scratch that.  I would totally watch this if it became a vampire version of the X-men for the cheese factor alone.  But it’s a shoujo, so it won’t.

-Why are the vampires all supposedly the hottest people in the school?  Does being bitten turn you into a bishie?  Is that why Zero’s the hottest guy (within the show’s logic, not my opinion) in the day class?

-Why are all of the girls in the school raging fangirls?  At least only half of the girls in the school were in the Prince Yuki fan club in Fruits Basket!  I actually feel bad for the guys in the day class, weirdly enough.

-Why is this called Vampire Knight?  I see the vampires, but there hasn’t been any travelling to medieval times or jousting yet.  Zero has a horse (Named Lily, which is a name that is significantly less badass than Binky), though.  I guess that’s a start…

Those fallacies aside, I’ll get on to the other stuff that takes place in this episode.  This anime pulls the ‘Valentine’s Day’ card pretty early.  Well, okay, it isn’t called Valentine’s day (it’s actually something that starts with an x and is pronounced ‘Chocolate’), but the girls give guys they like chocolate, so it’s Valentine’s day.

We get to witness more of the raging male tsundere, Zero.  And he broods some, too.  He probably does at least a bit of both in each episode.  Hell, I’d be disappointed if he didn’t.  However, the raging male tsundere-ism is a lot more fun to watch than the brooding.  He also freaks out about vampirism and wants to suck Yuuki’s blood, and that isn’t an innuendo, I swear.

What did Yuuki do this episode?  She made Kaname some chocolates because she, like, like-likes him! Oh, the scandal!  And Kaname wants to eat them!  So KAWAII!  Eh… not really.

She also has one mildly badass moment.

And I still don’t like Kaname much.  He’s still rather dull to me.  Every time I see him on screen, I’m just eagerly awaiting the inevitable slap-fight between him and Zero.  Now, that’s something I’d pay to see.

Okay, and one picture that I couldn’t find a place for anywhere else:
